Conservatory Painters in Hampstead

Hampstead Decorators paint and respray conservatory frameworks across North London — UPVC, aluminium, and timber structures.
- UPVC conservatory frameworks — colour changes from white to grey, black, or any colour
- Aluminium conservatory frames — resprayed and recoloured
- Timber lean-to conservatories — preparation and exterior paint
- Dwarf walls and surrounding brickwork — completing the overall look
An old white UPVC conservatory added to a period property is one of the most dated details on an otherwise well-kept exterior. The 1980s–90s white UPVC extension added to Victorian and Edwardian houses across Kentish Town, Islington, and Crouch End now looks dated against a refreshed exterior. Both are paintable.

Conservatory Painting Services in Hampstead
We handle all conservatory types found on North London properties — from the 1990s UPVC extension on a Kentish Town Victorian semi to the original timber lean-to on a Hampstead period house.
UPVC Conservatory Frameworks
The most common job is a white UPVC structure installed between the mid-1980s and early 2000s. Replacing a conservatory costs £5,000 to £20,000 or more. Respraying the framework costs a fraction of that. The result looks genuinely new.
We degrease and clean all UPVC profiles, then lightly abrade them for adhesion. A UPVC adhesion primer is applied before the topcoat. Two spray coats give a smooth, factory-like finish. The most popular colours are Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016), Slate Grey, and Black.
Aluminium Conservatory Frames
Older conservatories built in the 1970s and early 1980s often used aluminium profiles. Many 1970s–80s properties on the Finchley Road corridor and Gospel Oak had aluminium conservatories. Aluminium requires a specialist etch primer to achieve proper adhesion before topcoating.
We assess the profile condition and advise on whether repainting is the right option. Structurally sound aluminium conservatories are good candidates for a respray.
Timber Lean-To Conservatories
Victorian lean-to conservatories with painted timber frames need stripping back where paint has failed, sanding, and repriming before a new exterior topcoat. The profiles are often ornate, with glazing bars, decorative brackets, and original mouldings — this adds preparation time.
Timber conservatory painting is complementary to window frame painting. Where clients are refreshing sash windows throughout the property, we coordinate the conservatory work in the same programme.
Dwarf Walls and Surrounding Details
Most conservatories sit on a dwarf wall — a low brick or blockwork base below the glazed section. Painting the brickwork to match or complement the conservatory frame colour completes the look.
As part of a broader exterior painting project, we coordinate dwarf wall finishes with the rest of the facade.

How We Paint Your Conservatory
1. Assessment
We check the frame material, surface condition, extent of yellowing or damage, and glazing configuration. We quote at this stage.
2. Cleaning and Degreasing
All profiles cleaned thoroughly. Dirt and grease cause adhesion failure if not removed before priming.
3. Abrading
Light abrasion of UPVC or aluminium profiles to key the surface for the primer.
4. Masking
All glazing masked carefully. Conservatories have large glass areas and masking takes significant time to do correctly.
5. Primer Application
UPVC adhesion primer, etch primer for aluminium, or exterior timber primer applied and allowed to cure.
6. Topcoat
Two spray coats for UPVC and aluminium; brush and roller finish for timber. Final inspection before we leave.

Conservatory Painting Costs in Hampstead
Prices are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 020 4634 9779 for a precise quote.

Typical Price Range
Three things drive the price: conservatory size and type, frame material, and whether dwarf walls or surrounding brickwork are included.
- Small lean-to, UPVC frame only: £380–£580
- Standard 3m × 4m UPVC conservatory (1990s addition to a Victorian semi): £480–£780
- Large Victorian-style or extended structure: £750–£1,150
- Aluminium (specialist etch primer): £100–£200 additional
What Affects the Price
Frame material is the main cost variable. Aluminium requires specialist etch primer and adds to preparation time. Timber requires more prep but is quoted as part of the total. Dwarf walls or surrounding brickwork are clarified at assessment stage.
